Heather Arbiter

Hi there! I am a game designer, gameplay programmer and part-time Jedi Knight. I tend to focus on systems and/or mechanics design as opposed to level design but I never turn down the opportunity to expand my skills. In addition to design, I enjoy implementing game logic through code or scripting.

I am graduating in May with a Masters in Game Design & Development from Rochester Institute of Technology. There, as well as in my undergraduate career, I worked extensively in teams on numerous projects. I have produced several game demos, many of which are available in my portfolio. Additionally, I have experience with writing all kinds of documentation from high concepts to full game design documents, from technical design documents to pitches. Some of these can also be found in my portfolio.

I am currently concluding an independent study on the use of MediaWiki for design document production and internal documentation. The study focused on building a system of organization for the use of wikis, MediaWiki specifically, to house design documents and keep them active and useful throughout development.

My desire to work in game design is rooted in three things: a passion for creativity in art and writing, a love for computers and logic, and of course, a passion for games themselves. It's exciting to work in a field where one manufactures fun. Being at GDC, where I volunteered as a CA, is very exciting because I get to be surrounded by so many people who share my passions.

Currently I am seeking jobs in systems design where I can also do implementation through either programming or scripting. However, I am also eager to gain any experience I can.

My website is getting some final updates this week so please pardon any issues and come back later for the full experience!
