Current Work
Portfolio

I just graduated and need to further update my portfolio as usual. A few projects that never got around to being added are going in:

  • Multi-threaded background content loading - tech demo, my focus on how it affects designers and artists
  • Slimy Situation - game design with technical documents

Additionally, I have to update The Trip with demo videos, updated documents, and information about my own research. Some info can already be found in my blog. I also have more information for HeatherWiki.

The Trip™

After graduation, the game is at a point where its playable, visually appealing, and fun. It currently needs expansion in level design, narrative development, and serious balancing. The AI runs using a Director designed by Jay Austin's independent research. It needs ,major balancing although the basic setup seems to be effective. It also needs to be re-optimized because it hit some roadblocks towards the end of the school year that prevent smooth running on the XBox. This is important because those of us still working on it intend to release on XBLI.

Technology Training

I am working to teach myself more tools and technologies to make myself a better candidate for prospective employers. I tend to learn languages easily and quickly adapt to learning new technology. I have become adept at dissecting other projects and learning how they work.

Some of what I am teaching myself includes:

  • Flash/AS3 - ActionScript is relatively easy so far. However Flash is taking a bit more time to learn because its an unfamiliar application model.
  • Lua - I have played around with lua. Appart from some awkward syntax (I miss semi-colons), its just another language. I have to pick an application to with (or perhaps build a quick one myself)
  • Unreal
  • Unity

HeatherWiki

Read about the original description I posted here.

Work on HeatherWiki continues though it takes a back seat to other projects. Right now I'm only pushing features by request or as I need them personally. Currently there are six wikis using it: One is the original holding content from Revenge of the Duzzles. One holds the design document for Shelf Life and is the primary testing ground and holds most of the later stage documentation. One is in use by an indie game studio I spent the summer with. Two are holding design documents created by the first year grad students for one of their classes. And the last one being used by The Trip project.

I am currently working on updating most of the documentation and sorting it between the first two wikis. Since I moved development to a later version of MediaWiki, I have to move the documentation and get rid of all the deprecated stuff. I am also running the final tests on the 3rd beta release which will be available for download soon. I'm also putting together all the stuff to license it (most likely under a Creative Commons license).
